Rishi Sunak: Indian diaspora in UK organises Havan to support PM Candidate

Rishi Sunak: Amid reports of UK foreign secretary Liz Truss leading the prime ministerial race against her rival, former British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, the Indian diaspora has stepped up attempts to ensure his stability and glory by organising havans.

The battle for the Tory Party leadership between Sunak and Truss is becoming increasingly hot. Two opinion polls have showed Truss had grown her lead in the race to become Britain’s next leader.

“We are not praying for him because he is an Indian but because he has the calibre and can take us out of the cost of living crisis,” a British Indian, CK Naidu said.

After numerous ministers resigned from his government, citing a series of scandals and missteps occurred last year. Boris Johnson was forced to resign, and now the Conservative Party is looking for a new leader.

Double Digit Lead

Polls show Truss with a double-digit lead, and her team has reportedly asked Sunak to step back and let her take on the premiership. Leadership elections appear to have caused significant disruption in government operations, putting many critical decisions on hold. Sunak’s team is said to have flatly refused the offer.

Meanwhile, Sunak recently won over a Conservative Party audience in a head-to-head television debate with Truss, which gave the British Indian ex-minister a boost. Issues such as dealing with the cost of living crisis, energy bills and inflation happen to top the chart.
