A Bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud said interfering in the examination process just 48 hours before it was due to commence could create chaos and uncertainty and it cannot play with the career of students, who have prepared for it.

The bench said that it is a matter of academic policy as to when the examination should be held and the court cannot enter this arena.

It noted that nine lakh students are to appear in the examination and around 20,000 students have signed an online petition for postponing the examination.

The hearing comes after a months-long protest by students. Candidates have #postponegate2022 to demand deferment of national-level exam considering the current situations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Candidates have been tagging Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Ministry and IIT Kharagpur Director Virendra K Tiwari in their tweets demanding a postponement.
