The third RVSF facility in Surat, after those in Jaipur and Bhubaneswar, is called “Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect”; it employs eco-friendly procedures and seeks to safely dispose of 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually.

In addition, specific disposal areas have been set up in the facility for tyres, batteries, petrol, oil and gas.

What did the company say?

Mr PB Bajali, Group Chief Financial Officer, Tata Motors, Said, “Sustainability is our driving force and serves as our compass, guiding our vision and actions. Today, I am delighted to witness the launch of the Re.Wi.Re. facility in Surat, as we make great strides on a transformative journey towards responsible end-of-life vehicle scrapping. With our globally benchmarked recycling processes, we aim to minimise waste for a brighter future. We are confident that these decentralised facilities will benefit our customers, foster economic growth, generate employment opportunities and fulfil the need of eco-friendly vehicle scrapping.”

Vehicle Scrapping policy

In order to phase out old and unfit automobiles that emit pollution and to ensure the supply of rare-earth metals and raw materials for the steel industry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the vehicle scrappage programme in August 2021.

The Vehicle Scrappage Policy is a government-funded initiative to remove outdated and unsafe automobiles off Indian roadways and replace them with newer, more contemporary vehicles. The policy’s main objective is to establish a framework for gradually phasing out unsafe and polluting automobiles in order to reduce the nation’s carbon footprint.
