Tata Punch Vs Citroen C3: We present to you the Tata Punch and Citroen C3, two distinctive cars in the same price range. The C3 is a hatchback with a tough appearance, whilst the Punch is a small SUV. Although they belong to separate market groups, both models' prices overlap and even their features are very similar.

Which model is hence the fastest and consumes the least fuel? We line up the stick-shift versions of both cars with normally aspirated petrol engines to find out.

Features

Both vehicles receive high marks for practicality due to their considerable interior storage. The C3's centre console features a clever cut-out for your phone cable and a big tray to store your phone. All passengers should have access to one front and two back USB ports for charging.

The Tata gets you a significantly larger glovebox with useful sections while the Punch only has one USB port at the centre console. One of the many things on the Punch that the C3 lacks is a cooled glovebox.

Alloy wheels, auto headlights and wipers, projector headlamps, cruise control, an educational part-digital instrument cluster, a reversing camera, and motorised mirror adjust are further amenities exclusive to the top-spec Punch Creative (Rs 8.42 lakh, ex-showroom).

The C3 is only offered in two models, the higher of which actually competes on price with a mid-spec Punch. The feature set of a C3 Feel (Rs 7.1 lakh) and a Punch Adventure (Rs 7.05 lakh with Rhythm Pack) is actually fairly similar. The 10-inch touchscreen on the C3 is miles ahead of the Punch's 7.0-inch display and features cordless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A reverse camera and motorised wing mirrors give the Punch an edge.

Exterior

Tata Punch and Citroen C3 are both attractive vehicles on their own. On the crossover scale, the C3 is more of a hatchback, but it has plenty of road presence. It has a hefty appearance, which is aided by its tall roof and relatively long wheelbase. The front of the car, where the split headlamps and X-shaped scuff plate on the bumper draw your attention, is particularly stylish. With customization packs, you can further spruce up the appearance of your C3.

With its dual-tone paint, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and halogen projector headlights, the Tata Punch's top-spec Creative trim, looks upscale. Be aware that Punch models with lower price tags that are comparable to C3s have a less glitzy appearance. The Punch is all about chunky style in its most basic form, and it actually has an SUV-like shape. Highlights in terms of the style include the tri-arrow LED taillamps, high bonnet, and split headlamps that resemble Harriers.

Interior Designs

Both vehicles' interiors reflect their outward personas. From behind the driver’s seat, the C3 seems like the raised hatchback that it is, allowing a nice view out. Additionally, just like the appearance, the interior may be customised by choosing a vivid orange or muted grey for the dash top.

The C3's dash is attractive in and of itself, but the interior as a whole is inconsistent. For example, the landscape-oriented 10-inch touchscreen is impressive, but the basic digital instrument panel appears to have been taken from a low-cost scooter.

The fancy anodized dash top and the rough, scratchy plastics further down may very well be from two different cars. Although the narrow front seats don't look particularly luxurious, they actually provide good comfort. Unfortunately, because the headrests are permanent, taller passengers may not get enough head support.

The Tata's wider windscreen and more upright pillars give you the impression that you are driving a young SUV, which unconsciously boosts your sense of security behind the wheel. The Punch has slightly higher seats than a C3.

The Punch feels lighter and gives the driver and passenger greater room. The chunky dash, with its squared-off air-conditioning vents, functions well, and Tata's efforts to increase perceived quality are evident in the way that various materials and colours are combined in harmony there.

Panel fit is suitable for this class, but overall, Tata's materials are of a higher grade. Additionally, larger passengers can fit more comfortably in the front seats of the Punch.
