The Aspirational District Program seeks to boost the performance of districts that are falling behind in terms of a variety of development metrics. It has been learned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will probably unveil the ABP, which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned in her address outlining the 2022–23 Budget, during the second National Conference of Chief Secretaries’ closing session on Saturday.

4. India and France discuss security and defence cooperation at a strategic dialogue

The 36th edition of the Indo-French Strategic Dialogue was held on Thursday with the participation of French counterpart Emmanuel Bonne and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The French Embassy in India released a statement stating that both parties had reached an agreement to step up efforts “towards strategic autonomy” during Mr. Bonne’s visit, which was the first significant diplomatic visit of the new year. According to Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), “the two sides held discussions on a variety of issues, including the current global security situation in context of the conflict in Ukraine, regional security in context of Afghanistan, counter-terrorism, cyber security, defence cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, in addition to other issues of mutual concern.” Mr. Bonne met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his day-long visit. According to the MEA, PM Modi and Mr. Bonne spoke about “energy and culture,” among other things.
