Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser HyRyder recalled over faulty airbag controllers, all we know

Toyota: A total of 17,362 vehicles, including the Alto K10, S-Presso, Eeco, Brezza, Baleno, and the company’s flagship mid-size SUV, the Grand Vitara, will be recalled, according to news that was only released yesterday. Additionally, it has now come to light that Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the company that has long been a strategic partner with the brand, would also be recalling 1,390 examples of both its premium hatchback Glanza and its mid-size SUV Urban Cruiser HyRyder. The carmaker would reportedly recall any vehicles produced between December 8, 2022, and January 12, 2023.

The reason behind the recall by Toyota

Toyota’s recall has the same justification as Maruti Suzuki’s. The airbag controller in the impacted vehicles may be defective, according to the firms. In the event of a collision, failure to replace the part could prevent the airbags and seat belt pretensioners from deploying. Therefore, in an effort to reduce this danger, both Toyota and Maruti Suzuki will repair the problematic component at no cost.

In order to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, it has also been stated that Toyota will contact each and every consumer who owns one of the impacted vehicles personally. Customers have also been warned by the business to refrain from driving until the problem has been resolved.

Previous recalls

Like every other significant automaker, the Indo-Japanese firm has issued recalls in the past. In early December of last year, the business also announced a recall for the recently released HyRyder mid-sized SUV. A recall for Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara mid-size SUV was also announced at the same time. The list of Maruti Suzuki vehicles that were recalled also included the XL6, Ertiga, Brezza, and Ciaz. The assembly for the front seatbelts’ shoulder height adjustment may need to be disassembled since one of the child parts was reportedly defective.

Toyota India has already issued a recall for the now-discontinued Urban Cruiser sub-4m compact SUV before this one in December. Up to 9,498 Urban Cruiser models had to be recalled by the manufacturer because of a defective driver-side airbag module. According to the information given at the time by Toyota, the afflicted vehicles were produced between July 28, 2020, and February 11, 2021. The driver-side airbag module assembly, per the manufacturer’s official declaration, experienced certain issues. The manufacturer then decided to recall the cars so that the defective part could be replaced at no cost to the owner. Toyota was silent at the time regarding any potential problems that owners of the faulty vehicle might have.
