Toyota to launch 2 new SUVs this year, Ertiga based MPV and an SUV coupe, all we know so far

Toyota: Toyota is attempting to tighten its hold on the more affordable end of the MPV sector after raising the bar with the introduction of the new Innova Hycross. A new MPV based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is being developed by the firm and is scheduled to go on sale in the middle of 2023.

That’s not all; Toyota will also fill the space left by the now-discontinued Urban Cruiser by adding a new crossover based on the Maruti YTB to its lineup of sub-compact crossovers and SUVs. Maruti Suzuki will produce and provide Toyota with both of these vehicles.

Toyota Glanza-based SUV coupe

During the next Auto Expo 2023, Maruti Suzuki will unveil the YTB SUV for the first time. So far, all that is known about the YTB is that it will be built on the Heartect platform shared by the Baleno, that it will be under 4 metres long, that it will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, and that it will have crossover styling cues like jacked-up suspension and flared wheel arches.

Therefore, it is safe to presume that everything said here will also apply to the Toyota counterpart, with the exception that it will have a different design than the Maruti. It is anticipated to be released by the end of 2023 and has been given the internal codename A15.

Ertiga based MPV

Toyota’s take on the Ertiga-based MPV is thought to be going under the codename D23 and is scheduled to make its debut sometime in the middle of 2023. It will be built on the same Heartect platform as the Ertiga and powered by the K15C petrol engine from Maruti, probably in both petrol and CNG versions. But it will be distinct enough from the Ertiga to have its own personality.

In countries like South Africa, Toyota already offers a rebadged Ertiga under the Rumion name. However, that was based on the Ertiga before the makeover, and there were hardly any aesthetic variations. One may anticipate that Toyota’s future MPV will differ from the Ertiga in the same way that the Glanza does from the Baleno, which means both models’ front and rear fascias will be unique and include more brand-specific aesthetic cues.

However, unlike the current shared models, we do not anticipate any significant alterations to the interior or equipment list. Toyota’s Ertiga model could be slightly more expensive than Maruti’s, but it also most likely has a better warranty.

In either case, Toyota will offer one of the broadest MPV lineups available, spanning over petrol, diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG), mild hybrid, and strong hybrid to meet the needs of customers from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 30 lakh price point. Be aware that the Innova Crysta will also return this year with a facelift and in diesel-only form.
