All about the self-balancing Yamaha R3 Electric

The electric R3 shares many structural similarities with a traditional bike, but it has two motors up front. The actuators, which are positioned at the front wheel and steering head, transmit inputs to produce the necessary direction adjustments to stabilise the motorcycle and turn it left or right, forward or backward.

What is AMSAS?

For speeds up to 5 kmph, the AMSAS is intended to balance the bike and keep it upright. It receives a six-axis inertial measurement device to help it achieve this. Furthermore, Yamaha has put its toes into such a sophisticated system before. In 2015 and 2017, it featured Motobot and Motodroid, respectively. However, neither materialised.

Even the AMSAS is still in its development at this time. Honda has also been developing safety features like semi-autonomous riding and airbag systems, in addition to Yamaha.
