BHU, IIT-Madras ink MoU to facilitate student exchange

It will promote official communication and collaboration between the two organisations.

In order to provide its students and researchers with new opportunities for growth and excellence, the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The five-year Memorandum of Understanding signed by V Kamakoti, director of IIT-Madras, and Sudhir Kumar Jain, vice chancellor of BHU, would promote official communication and collaboration between the two organisations.

The MoU enables PhD students from the two institutes to exchange by allowing them to do research for up to one semester at the other institute.

Jain said, “We would like to partner with other eminent institutions and create new opportunities for our students and teachers. This MoU is reflective of these efforts. IIT Madras is one of the most eminent and dynamic institutions in the country and we are very happy to build a strong relationship with them.”

Interdisciplinary education

V. Kamakoti said, “As IIT Madras focuses on interdisciplinary education, this engagement with BHU will undoubtedly open many areas of joint collaboration ranging from music, languages, philosophy to Sciences and Technology. We are extremely excited to partner with one of the most eminent Universities of our country”.

The MoU will also make it possible for faculty members to exchange by allowing them to conduct research for up to six months at the other institute.

The two organisations that have been given Institution of Eminence designation by the Indian government’s IoE programme have also decided to share research infrastructure among their researchers and teachers.

A wide range of academic and research fields, including science, engineering, the arts, medicine, agriculture, the humanities, and multidisciplinary fields, will be included in the collaboration.
