Delhi News: Private Schools in the Capital Can’t Increase Fees, Need Government Approval

Learn about the new regulation requiring Delhi private schools to seek government approval before raising fees

Delhi News: Private schools in Delhi are now required to seek permission from the government before increasing their fees. This rule particularly applies to schools that have been officially recognized by the Delhi government and have been provided land by government authorities like the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

Prior Approval for Fee Hike

Schools that fall under this category must obtain approval from the Directorate of Education before implementing any fee hikes for the academic year 2024-25. This regulation is rooted in Section 17 of the Delhi School Education Act and Rules (DSEAR), 1973, which prohibits private unaided schools from enhancing fees without the prior sanction of the Director of Education.

Adherence to Approved Fee Structure

According to the directive, these schools must adhere to the last approved fee structure determined by the Director of Education. Alternatively, they may follow the fee statement they have previously submitted for consideration.

Scrutiny of Suggestions

Any suggestions proposed by the schools regarding fee hikes will be meticulously reviewed by the Director of Education or authorized officers. Failure to submit suggestions in accordance with this rule will result in the schools being unable to raise their fees until approval is granted by the Director of Education.

Consequences of Unauthorised Fee Hikes

It’s crucial for schools to await official approval before implementing any fee increases. Schools found to have raised fees without proper authorization will face serious consequences as per the law.
