EDUCATION: On Bhagat Singh’s Birth Anniversary, Delhi Government Launches Deshbhakti Curriculum

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has announced the launch of Deshbhakti Curriculum at Chhatrasal Stadium on Tuesday on the occasion of revolutionary Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary. The new curriculum has been introduced to boost patriotism in students.

Patriotic Meditation

Different books have been prepared for classes 6 to 8 and Classes 9 to 12 syllabus. One book among the syllabus contains names of 100 revolutionaries. Government school of Delhi will introduce 

this curriculum on patriotism. A 45-minute class will be there every day on patriotism which will begin with a ‘Patriotic Meditation’.

What has the CM and Deputy CM said?

“There are waves called patriotism in our hearts when we see the tricolour. People sing Jana-Gana-Mana and everyone awakens. This spirit should be alive in us,” said the Delhi CM.

“There is Gandhi, Patel, Subhash Chandra Bose inside every Indian. Today our schools and institutes are producing engineers, doctors, lawyers, but now we will make patriotic doctors and patriotic engineers,” said Arvind Kejriwal.

“We talk about Bhagat Singh, Hemu Kalani, Jhansi ki Rani and Tantia Tope’s battles but we never discuss what led them onto the battles, how they fought those battles,” said Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister.

Topics in Deshbhakti Curriculum

A few of the chapters included in the Deshbhakti Curriculum are: ‘My India is glorious but why not developed’, ‘Deshbhakti: My Country My Pride’, ‘Who is a Deshbhakt’, and ‘India of my Dreams’.

Activities like maintaining a ‘Deshbhakti diary’, participating in ‘Deshbhakti Meditation’ of five minutes where students will talk about five new patriots each day will also be carried out.

Arvind Kejriwal said that if Delhi started this new curriculum, it may be started in other states across the country too.
