Karnataka government has decided to reopen all colleges from Nov 17

The Karnataka government has decided to reopen all graduate, engineering and diploma colleges for students after Diwali celebrations, from November 17, according to Higher education Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan.

The decision was taken after Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan today held a meeting with educational experts and Department officials.
Schools and colleges in Karnataka have been shut since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic

“In a meeting that took place under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister it was decided to reopen degree college from November 17. Engineering, diploma and degree colleges will all start,” Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said.

“Students can register online, those students wanting to attend classes by coming to colleges should have consent from their parents. Depending on the strength- how the classes have to be held, in how many batches- everything will be decided along with all the necessary safety SOPs,” he added.

The students, however, have the option of attending class physically or online, with parental consent needed for the former. The number of batches in each college would be decided depending on the number of students opting for physical classes.

According to media reports, offline classes will be optional for students and if they choose to attend they will have to submit consent forms signed by parents.
