NEET PG 2021 OBC and EWS: Know What Supreme Court Says

NEET PG 2021 OBC and EWS: Hearing on Thursday, 06 January 2022 has started in the Supreme Court on the matter of reservation in NEET PG Counseling 2021 for Medical PG Admission 2021. Advocate Anand Grover, appearing for the petitioner, said that there is no point in fixing the income limit of Rs 8,000 for EWS category, as there is a large population in the country whose annual income ranges from 0 to 2.5 lakhs. A two-judge bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud is hearing the matter.

The hearing of OBC and EWS reservation case in the NEET PG 2021 counseling in the Supreme Court was completed on 06 January 2022. After hearing the arguments of all the parties, the bench of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice AS Bopanna has reserved the decision. Soon the court will give its verdict.

The SG said that ‘medical courses are time bound. If any changes are made at this stage, it will be much longer than that. We are worried about the counseling of NEET. ‘

It is worth noting that the Central Government has approved to give 27 percent OBC and 10 percent Economic Weaker Section (EWS) reservation in medical admission. For giving EWS reservation, the family income limit has been fixed at Rs 8 lakh per annum. The Supreme Court had asked the Center to reconsider this decision. After which a panel of three members deliberated on it.

The Center said that ‘As per the suggestion of the panel, the limit of 8 lakh is appropriate and we would not like to reduce it.’
