UGC Issues New Guidelines for Women’s Safety

UGC has taken an important decision for girls studying in higher educational institutions. Actually, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued new guidelines. In which the UGC has been asked by educational institutions to create a safe and violence-free environment for all students, especially girls, women employees.

In this guideline of the UGC, it has been said that the safety of women should be at the top. If women are safe in the campus, then their participation in educational institutions will also be strengthened. UGC has also sought suggestions from educational institutions on this guideline till November 14.

This system must be there in educational institutions

Giving guidelines to the educational institutions, the UGC said that there should be better facilities for sanitation and cleanliness for women. Rest rooms, 24-hour water supply, covered dustbins, sanitary vending should be available for them. Apart from this, safe transport for them, proper lighting arrangements on the roads leading to the college, there should be facility of feeder buses.

In the new guidelines of the commission, the educational institutions have been asked to keep the arrangement of boundary walls around the campus for the safety of the students. There should be proper arrangement of CCTV cameras in roads, libraries, corridors, playgrounds, parks, laboratories, parking areas.

Along with this, universities have been asked to emphasize the policy of zero tolerance towards sexual harassment and gender discrimination on campuses.
