Uttar Pradesh schools, colleges and universities to reopen

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that schools, colleges, and universities will reopen as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to fall.

The government of Yogi Adityanath has announced that intermediate schools in Uttar Pradesh will reopen on August 16 with a 50% capacity.

Further, colleges and universities will resume on September 1, according to the state administration.

Instructions have also been given to commence the application process for college and university admissions on August 5.

The decision to reopen schools, colleges and universities has been taken followed by a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about re-opening schools in the state. The thorough guidelines will be soon released by the UP government.

According to the recent University Grant Commission Guidelines, new admission for colleges and universities should end maximum by September 30, 2021. Classes for the same should begin from October 1, maximum.

Educational institutions such as schools and colleges were closed in the state after the second wave of COVID-19 hit India in April and May.

The order comes as many states reopened schools, partially or fully, including Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh from Monday. Earlier, other states such as Gujarat, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh have also already started the reopening process.

Meanwhile, in a major boost to Uttar Pradesh, as many as 10 districts with active and fresh Covid-19 cases have become free of infection. The state’s recovery rate has climbed up to a remarkable 98.6% testifying the success of the ‘UP’s Covid Control Model’ in eradicating the virus.

The 10 districts are Aligarh, Amroha, Etah, Farrukhabad, Hathras, Kasganj, Kaushambi, Mahoba, Pratapgarh and Shravasti.
