Actor Mahesh Babu's father and Telugu Superstar Krishna passes away at 79 in Hyderabad

Superstar Krishna:  Legendary Telugu actor Superstar Krishna breathed his last on November 15 at around 4 am at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was 79.

Krishna’s untimely demise left the entire Telugu film industry in shock. Social media is abuzz with condolences to Krishna's son Mahesh Babu, and the entire family. Krishna had suffered a massive cardiac arrest on November 14 and was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state at around 2 am. He was revived after 20 minutes of CPR.

Krishna was battling age-related issues. The entire Telugu film industry is in mourning over the loss of Superstar Krishna.

Long career

Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy alias Krishna was born to Ghattamaneni Raghavayya Chowdary and Nagaratnamma on May 31, 1943. Popularly called Krishna, he worked mainly in Telugu cinema. Krishna acted in over 350 films in a career spanning five decades. Fans fondly call him Superstar.

Krishna’s was married to Indira Devi and later to Vijaya Nirmala. Vijaya Nirmala passed away in 2019 while Indira died recently in September. Krishna is survived by five children; Ramesh Babu, Mahesh Babu, Padmavathi, Manjula and Priyadarshini. Ramesh Babu passed away in January 2022.

Small beginning

Krishna began his career in 1961 when he got a brief role in Kula Gothralu. He appeared in supporting roles for the next couple of years and it was only in 1965 that he made his debut as the lead actor in Thene Manasulu. Two years later, Krishna got a much-needed boost when his film Sakshi won critical acclaim at the Tashkent Film Festival.

Krishna was one of the highest-paid actors during his time.

His film Pandanti Kapuram won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 1972. Some of his best films include Alluri Seetharama Raju, Simhasanam, Gudachari 116, James Bond 777, Mugguru Kodukulu and Anna Thammudu, among others.

Krishna also ventured into politics but bid goodbye to it in 2012.
