Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed that he is working on Sarkar 4, the next film in his popular political crime franchise. He made the announcement on the opening day of the Red Lorry Film Festival. The director said that shooting for the film will begin very soon.The news has excited fans of the Sarkar series. Reports also suggest that Abhishek Bachchan may return to the franchise after Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King. However, there is no official confirmation yet.
Speaking at the event, Ram Gopal Varma said the new film is important for him and he is eager to start shooting. The director also spoke about another project he is planning. He joked that the film could help him make up for his past mistakes. He said, “I am making Sarkar 4. I’m starting that next month. My other project is titled The Syndicate and would wash away all my sins.”
Sarkar 4 Update: Will Abhishek Bachchan Return?
Sarkar 4 announcement has become a big talking point because of rumours about Abhishek Bachchan’s return. In the earlier films, Abhishek played Shankar Nagre, the son of Amitabh Bachchan’s character Subhash Nagre.

The first film, Sarkar, released in 2005 and became a cult hit. It was followed by Sarkar Raj in 2008, which added Aishwarya Rai to the cast. The third film, Sarkar 3, came out in 2017 and featured Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Yami Gautam, Manoj Bajpayee and Amit Sadh.
In Sarkar Raj, Abhishek’s character died, but new reports say he may still return in Sarkar 4. This has created curiosity among fans. The makers may bring a twist in the story or take the film in a different direction.
Right now, Abhishek Bachchan is busy shooting for King, which stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. Filming for the movie is expected to continue until June 2026. Because of this, it is not clear whether Abhishek will shoot for Sarkar 4 later or at the same time.
Ram Gopal Varma Talks About Shiva, Spielberg And His New Films
Ram Gopal Varma attended the Red Lorry Film Festival for a special screening of his cult film Shiva. During the event, he spoke about the inspiration behind the film and his filmmaking style.
He said legendary director Steven Spielberg influenced many of his shots. RGV said, “Certainly, some of the shots in Shiva were inspired by Spielberg’s style of shot-taking.”
He also revealed that the story idea of Shiva came from Bruce Lee’s film The Way of the Dragon, but he changed the setting completely.
The director also praised Aditya Dhar’s film Dhurandhar and called him one of the most promising filmmakers of the current generation. He added that Steven Spielberg is still his all-time favourite director.
Meanwhile, shooting for Sarkar 4 is expected to begin in April or May 2026. If Abhishek Bachchan returns, the film may bring back the father-son dynamic that fans loved in the earlier parts.
