In the same interview, the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress spoke about one of the hardest moments of her life. She opened up about how she felt when her daughter Shweta Bachchan got married. The change hit her deeply, and she did not expect it to affect her this much.
At the We The Women Asia event in Mumbai, Jaya talked about the loneliness she felt during that time. She said the emotions were overwhelming and sudden. She explained that the shift at home made it hard for her to adjust.
Talking about it, she said, “After Shweta got married, I felt loneliness. I felt very, very… I mean, I’ve never been so disturbed in my life like I did when she got married. Don’t know what happened. I just could not stop crying. And I was the hardest mother to this child. But you know, there was something that just left me and I said – Look, I can’t do this.”
Actress Recalls Her Father’s Reaction When Shweta And Abhishek Were Born
Someone at the event asked if it was empty nest syndrome. Jaya said she was not sure. She added, “I don’t know. But I think maybe because I come from a family of girls. When Shweta was born, my father was celebrating, and he was so happy. When Abhishek was born, he said haan theek hai.”
The talk then moved to Abhishek Bachchan. The journalist joked, “Poor Abhishek, poor boy,” pointing out the different reactions from Jaya’s father. Jaya agreed with a smile and said, “Poor boy. Well, he’s making up for it now, getting all the love.”
Shweta Bachchan married Nikhil Nanda on February 16, 1997. They have two children, Navya Naveli and Agastya.
