Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has openly praised Mrunal Thakur, calling her one of the most emotionally strong actors in Hindi cinema today. In a recent interview, he spoke in detail about her talent and also shared that he has a bold role planned for her.

Anurag Kashyap Praises Mrunal Thakur’s Acting
Speaking to India Today, Anurag Kashyap said that Mrunal Thakur often underestimates her own talent. He praised her natural acting style and emotional depth. The filmmaker said, “She really underestimates herself. She has no idea how good an actor she is. She’s a very good actor.”
He also explained what makes her different from others in the industry. According to him, she connects deeply with her emotions. He added, “Actors, you know; they act with their hands, with their eyes, with all of that. But she feels things, and they translate through her eyes. If you see any random image of her from any film, generally, you know exactly what she’s feeling; it’s all there in her eyes. That connection with self, very few actors have.”

During the same interview, Anurag Kashyap also spoke about working with Mrunal Thakur in the future. He hinted at a completely different and bold role for her. He said, “I have something crazy in mind for her. She’s been wanting to let loose and abuse in a film for a while now, so whoever she wants to abuse, she can do it in my film.”
Mrunal Thakur And Anurag Kashyap’s Work Front
Mrunal Thakur was last seen in Do Deewane Seher Mein, which was released in February 2026. The film did not do well at the box office, earning around Rs 7.98 crore against a Rs 25 crore budget.
However, she has several projects lined up. She will next appear in Dacoit: A Love Story with Adivi Sesh, releasing on April 10, 2026. She also has Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai with Varun Dhawan and Pooja Meri Jaan, which is currently on hold.
On the other hand, Anurag Kashyap’s last directorial project was Nishaanchi (2025). While it did not perform well commercially, it received decent reviews. He is now focusing more on acting and will be seen as Inspector Swamy in Dacoit: A Love Story. His next film as a director, Bandar, starring Bobby Deol and Sanya Malhotra, is set to release on May 22, 2026.
