Arun Govil, known for his role as Ram in Ramayan, joins BJP

Television and Bollywood actor Arun Govil, popularly known for playing Lord Ram in the televised version of epic Ramayana, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. He joined the party at its office in Delhi.

The development comes days ahead of the assembly elections in four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Govil hails from a cantonment town of Meerut. Son of a waterworks engineer, he studied in a number of schools across Saharanpur and Shahjahanpur. He did his bachelors in science from Meerut and completed it from Mathura.

Besides his role as Ram in Ramayan, he has also appeared in many films including Paheli. Post Ramayan, Govil continued to work in a slew of mythological series including Luv Kush, Harishchandr, Vishwamitra and Buddha.

He has also worked in regional cinema.
