Bollywood actor and writer Piyush Mishra has opened up about Anurag Kashyap’s surprising filmmaking style. Known for his dark and intense films, Kashyap has a habit of killing off his most loved characters suddenly, leaving audiences shocked. This approach is seen in films like Gulaal and Sacred Games, where even key characters rarely survive.

Kashyap’s films are known for their realism and exploration of human emotions such as greed, betrayal and revenge. He avoids traditional happy endings, often taking audiences on unexpected, tragic journeys. In the thriller Ugly, the young girl Kali dies due to the neglect of adults, a scene often cited as haunting. Similarly, in Gulaal, the protagonist Dilip Singh meets a lonely and tragic end after being betrayed by trusted allies.

In an interview with journalist Shubhankar Mishra, Piyush Mishra explained Kashyap’s unusual approach. He said, “Anurag ki khaasiyat hai, wo jo hai, sabse adhik jo pyaar karta hai us character ko, usko jaldi marwa diya. Aise bhag se mar gaya, aise hi marwata hai wo har picture mein. Dekho, usne Sacred Games mein Radhika aate thi na, usko aise marwa diya, khat se marwa diya. Khat se marwata hai wo.”

He added, “Sabse priya characters jo hote hain, uske wo usko khat se marwa deta hai. Usko bilkul bhi sharm lihaz nahi hai saale ko. Bilkul khat se maar, sahab ne dekha, khadak se maar diya, mar jaaye. Bachne ka mauka, bolne ka mauka, kuch explain to kare, wo uske pehle wo khatam kar deta hai. Matlab kai jagah teen char goli lag ke bhi aadmi zinda rehta hai.”

Anurag Kashyap himself has once mentioned that he uses extreme violence in films to create strong emotional reactions. Interestingly, he admits that in real life, he is scared of blood and funerals.
