Kiccha Sudeep: BJP is eyeing poll-bound Karnataka to secure a historic second consecutive term. And it is leaving no stones unturned to fulfill its dream. From deploying political heavyweights to roping in celebrities, it leaving nothing to chance.
In the latest development, the saffron party has approached several Kannada actors to be its star campaigners as Karnataka heads to assembly elections next month. Among them is Vikrant Rona star Sudeep Sanjeev, also known as Kichcha Sudeep, sources said.
Focus on Kalyana-Karnataka region
According to reports, the hugely popular actor would campaign for the BJP across the state, with a special focus on the Kalyana-Karnataka region. This would be Kichcha Sudeep’s first foray into politics.
The reason behind picking Kichcha Sudeep (51) for campaigning is the fact that he belongs to the Nayaka caste, notified under the Scheduled Castes list in the state. As Nayakas hold sway in the Kalyana-Karnataka region and Kichcha Sudeep too has a massive fanbase, BJP hopes to win maximum votes in the region.
Interestingly, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar had met Kichcha Sudeep at the latter’s residence in February. That had sparked speculation that some form of political parleys were underway between the superstar and the opposition party.
No political motives
However, Kiccha Sudeep and DK Shivakumar’s aides later cleared the air and stated that it was a personal visit with no political motives.
Karnataka goes to the polls on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.
The Congress and JD(S) have already announced their first list of 124 and 93 candidates, respectively. According to Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, the BJP will release its first list of candidates after the party’s central leadership finalises it on April 8.
