In an interview, the actress disclosed that she was homeless upon arriving in Mumbai and had to sleep on the pavement, remarking, "My journey has been a thousand miles. I didn't come to Mumbai in first class. I've taken taxis, buses, and trains in addition to doing a lot of walking. I've been sleeping on the road because I don't have a place to live. Due to my fall into the trap, I was forced to complain about the people involved. I've seen the negative aspects of it. On the other hand, the President has honoured me twice.”
The actress also disclosed, during Barkha Dutt's book launch, that she was physically abused when she was 17 by a Bollywood man who was the same age as her father. The actress revealed that the time was difficult for her and she suffered from physical abuse at that time. However, the actress didn't reveal the details about the person who did that to her. She revealed that she felt trapped when she thought that people could support her. Kangana revealed that people fall in their traps because they do such things with newcomers.
The actress recalled that horrible event by saying, "This man my father's age hit me hard on my head when I was 17 years old, and I started bleeding. I removed my slipper and hit him strongly on the head, causing blood to come out of his head. I filed a complaint about that man in the police station. He received no penalty. I warned him and told him not to follow me anymore. I had never put myself through such conditions before.”
