College Romance web series on TVF: Delhi High Court Judge calls it ‘obscene,’ says ‘Used earphones to watch’

The web series ‘College Romance’ has recently come into the limelight once again. Delhi High Court has given such a strong reaction on this web series based on college students, you will be surprised to hear about it. The Delhi High Court observed that the sexually abusive language used in this web series can corrupt impressionable minds as the series is widely available. The court has made these remarks during the hearing of the case filed against the platform that released this web series and its actors.

The web series ‘College Romance’ has been released on the OTT platform TVF. The High Court says that obscene, provocative and lewd content has been used in this series. Along with this, the government has also been urged to take steps to check the language on such platforms.

Raised questions on sexual content

Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma said, ‘The power of obscenity and sexual overtones of language used in this web series cannot be underestimated and it is in danger of corrupting the minds of people, especially impressionable minds’. The judge said that he found the language so vulgar that he had to use earphones to watch the episode.

Use Earphone to watch this web series

The court’s judgment said that ‘the court had to watch the episode using earphones in the chamber, as the profanity of its language was to such an extent that it could not be heard without shocking or intimidating the people around’. The court said that ‘this is not the language which is used by the youth of the country or the citizens of this country, and this language cannot be said to be a commonly spoken language in our country’.

The judge said that the makers of the series will face action under section 67 which deals with sexual content and 67(A) which deals with publishing or disseminating sexually explicit material but directed to register an FIR Arrest instructions not included. On September 17, 2019, an FIR was lodged against this series of TVF.
