Covid-19 update: India logs in 45,882 cases, 584 deaths

India added fresh new 45,882 cases in last 24-hour, pushing the total tally past 9 million. The total case currently stand at 90,04,365. Recoveries surged to 84.28 lakh, pushing the national recovery rate to 93.6 per cent.

584 people have lost lives in last 24-hour, taking the total death toll to 1,32,162. As of now, 4,43,794 cases are active in the country.

Maharashtra remained the top affected state in the country with 17,63,055 total cases, up 5,535 since Thursday. Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are other states to report the most number of cases.

On Thursday, Delhi reported more than 7.546 cases, taking the total active cases to 43,221. The death toll has reached 8,000 with 98 new deaths. The recovery rate in the city is 89.9 per cent while the death rate stands at 1.57 per cent.

Here’re more updates related to the covid-19 pandemic:

*Meghalaya added 109 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, pushing the total numbers to 10,979. The death count in the state rose to 104 with one more person succumbing to the virus on Thursday.

*WHO has advised against Gilead’s remdesivir for all hospitalised Covid-19 patients.

*Telangana reported 894 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the tally to over 2.61 lakh while four fatalities pushed the toll to 1,423, the state government said on Friday. 

*Adar Poonawalla, CEO of SII, on Thursday said the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine should be available for healthcare workers and elderly people by around February 2021 and by April for the general public.

*Mexico has announced that its Covid-19 death toll had exceeded 100,000, becoming the world’s fourth country to reach the grim milestone after the US, Brazil and India.

*AstraZeneca and Oxford University’s potential Covid-19 vaccine produced a strong immune response in older adults, data published in Lancet on Thursday showed.

*Around 1.7 million Italians may get vaccinated against the covid-19 by the end of January 2021, the country’s Extraordinary Commissioner for the Covid-19 Emergency Domenico Arcuri announced.

*The Gujarat government imposed night curfew — between 9pm and 6am — in Ahmedabad from November 20 to curb the cases increased due to Diwali festivities.

Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 56.8 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1.35 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
