Veteran Bollywood legend Dharmendra reportedly died on November 11, 2025, in Mumbai. However, there was no official confirmation from his family. His death marked the end of an era in Indian cinema. The 89-year-old actor had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital and died after prolonged health issues. India Today and other portals reported his demise, leaving fans heartbroken.
However, his daughter Esha Deol posted a story to refute the rumours and confirmed that he is stable. She wrote, “The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for the prayers for Papa’s speedy recovery.”

For a few days, concern for his health grew. He was admitted for what was first said to be a routine check-up. His wife (Hema Malini) and sons (Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol) were seen by his side. Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Aryan Khan and Salman Khan also visited him.
A Look At How Dharmendra Transitioned From Romantic Hero To ‘He-Man’ Of Bollywood
Dharmendra began his acting journey in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. With his charming smile and old-school grace, he quickly became Bollywood’s romantic hero. Films like Phool Aur Patthar (1966) and Aankhen (1968) made him a heartthrob of the decade. He was every director’s favourite and every fan’s dream star.
The 1970s became the turning point of his career. Hindi cinema was changing and audiences wanted stronger heroes – men who could fight and love with equal passion. Dharmendra adapted to the change. With Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), he stepped into action and reinvented himself completely.
His rugged looks and powerful screen presence earned him the tag of Bollywood’s “He-Man.” He was no longer just the romantic lead. He became the face of courage, loyalty, and raw strength.
How The Veteran Actor Ruled Every Era
This change turned him into one of the biggest stars in history. Over six decades, Dharmendra appeared in more than 300 films. In 1987, even in his 50s, he delivered seven consecutive hits and nine successful films in one year (a rare record that still stands).
People often called him the “heart of every era.” It was true. From the romantic hero of the 60s to the action icon of the 70s and 80s, Dharmendra stayed loved in every phase. His role as Veeru in Sholay (1975) became immortal. Fans still quote his dialogues and celebrate his bond with Amitabh Bachchan from the film.
Off-screen, Dharmendra is known for his warmth and simplicity. He has genuine friendships in the industry and is adored by the younger generation. During the shoot of Om Shanti Om (2007), many actors waited for hours to share a frame with him in the song “Deewangi Deewangi.” It showed the love and respect he continues to receive even decades later.
