Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic box office clash is already creating strong buzz. Two big stars, two highly anticipated films with one release date. As March 19 approaches, excitement continues to build among fans and industry insiders. However, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has added fuel to the conversation with his scathing remark.
Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge and Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups are set for a direct clash at cinemas. While many see it as a battle between two major releases, Varma believes the discussion goes beyond numbers. According to him, the clash reflects a contrast in cinematic thinking.
Ram Gopal Varma On Dhurandhar 2 Vs Toxic
Taking to X on Sunday, February 22, Ram Gopal Varma shared a detailed note comparing the two films. Known for his no-filter views, RGV described the Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic clash as a difference in filmmaking approach rather than a regional competition.
He wrote, “The principal difference between the two is that #Dhurandhar respects the audience’s intelligence and #Toxic presumes their dumbness. KGF 2 was a local film that aimed at the dumbness in the masses and Dhurandhar aimed at the intelligence in the masses. That is exactly why it became global. Dhurandhar a reported 130 cr DAVID film (both versions together cost some 260 cr) hit some 1500 cr, proving that the so called masses are actually far more intelligent than what the masala merchants ever imagined.”
Varma praised director Aditya Dhar for trusting the audience. He argued that Dhar’s storytelling never underestimated viewers. At the same time, RGV criticised what he called formula-heavy cinema driven by spectacle.
DON'T MISS
He further stated, “Treating audiences like dumb idiots who must clap and whistle on every cue versus treating them like adults who can follow a complex plot, make their own judgements and don’t need to be spoon fed by ear shattering background music.”
Varma also clarified that his comments were not personal. Instead, he said his thoughts came from concern about Indian cinema’s creative direction. He added that he is eagerly waiting for March 19 to see which film audiences choose.
About Both The Films
Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues the journey of undercover agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi, played by Ranveer Singh. The sequel is positioned as a grounded spy thriller. It promises action, intensity and layered storytelling. The cast includes Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan and Arjun Rampal.
Meanwhile, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups marks the return of Yash after the blockbuster KGF franchise. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film is described as a stylish period gangster drama set in 1940s Goa. The ensemble cast features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara and Huma Qureshi.
Trade analysts have called the clash “unfortunate.” Two pan-India event films releasing together could split audience footfall. Yet, the face-off has undeniably raised curiosity.
