Dhurandhar: Did Major Mohit Sharma’s Family File Petition Against Ranveer Singh Starrer For Personal Gains? His Brother Says ‘We Just Want…’

Major Mohit Sharma’s family raises concerns over the certification of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, insisting they are not seeking personal gain but clarity and respect. They question why they weren’t shown the film before its CBFC approval.

Aditya Dhar’s upcoming action drama Dhurandhar is all set to hit theatres on December 5, 2025. The film recently received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but the decision has sparked fresh debate. The family of the late Major Mohit Sharma expressed concerns over the certification process, claiming they were not given a chance to view the film before it was approved. He also clarified that there was no intention of any personal gain by filing a case against the makers.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had asked the CBFC to review the family’s concerns after they filed a petition seeking a temporary stay on the release. The court also recommended consulting the Indian Army if needed. Shortly after, the CBFC cleared the film. They described it as a work of fiction, paving the way for its December release.

Major Mohit Sharma’s Brother REACTS To Dhurandhar Getting CBFC Clearance

Speaking to HT City, Major Sharma’s brother (Madhur Sharma) appreciated the CBFC’s quick action but said the family still had questions. He said, “I am sure they’ve followed the process, and they were very quick to take a decision, which is good. We don’t know what data CBFC has relied on, but I am sure they have done their due diligence. They have said that it is a work of fiction, so I hope that a disclaimer will be duly added.”

Despite the clearance, Madhur believes the family should have been shown the film first. He explained, “I just feel that a screening could have been organised for the parents so that any misconceptions floating on social media could have been clarified. People who have lived their entire life with him are in a better position to tell if anything in the film replicates his life, rather than someone outside the ecosystem.”

The family has not yet decided on the next legal step. Madhur added, “I am yet to speak to the lawyers… whether we should file a rejoinder…let’s see.”

Was Ranveer Singh Starrer Sued For Personal Gain?

Meanwhile, social media chatter has amplified speculation, with fans comparing Ranveer Singh’s character to Major Sharma’s real-life story. Madhur stressed that their concern is not personal gain but fairness and respect for families of soldiers.

He said, “There is no benefit the parents are looking for. We want people to take a sympathetic, empathetic perspective. This is not just for us but for every family that has lost a son (in military operations). We just want due diligence. If the film is based on him, just say, ‘Sorry, we didn’t inform you.’ If not, say the hype is untrue.”

The family also clarified the timing of the petition, explaining that it was filed in the brief window between Madhur’s tweet raising concerns and Aditya Dhar’s public statement denying any connection.

Apart from Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi.
