Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma has slammed legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar for using her name to criticise husband Virat Kohli’s performance against KXIP on Thursday.
Kohli, who leads Royal Challengers Bangalore, not only dropped two crucial catches but also failed with the bat, managing just a run off five balls.
The cricketer even admitted that his mistakes on the field led to a 97-run defeat against Kings XI Punjab at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Targeting Kohli’s poor form on the field, top commentator Gavaskar, in the commentary box came up with a very disgraceful comment against him involving his wife Anushka.
Gavaskar reportedly said, “Inhone lockdown me to bas Anushka ki gendon ki practice ki hain”. (Virat Kohli has only trained against Anushka’s balls during the lockdown)
His comment, obviously, did not go down well with netizens as they trolled the former cricketer back and forth on Twitter. Now, in the latest, Anushka has hit back at Gavaskar for his remark.
Anushka took to Instagram Stories and posted a long note expressing disapproval over Gavaskar’s comment.
She wrote: “That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her for her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commenting on the game. Don’t you think you should have equal amount of respect for me and us?”
“I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or yourwords only relevant if you use my name in the process?”
“It’s 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements?”
“Respected Mr. Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this.”
This is not the first time that Anushka has fallen prey to mockery by renowned figures and cricket lovers over Virat’s performance on the field. Back in 2015, Virat Kohli’s poor form in the ODI Cricket World Cup also made her a constant subject of trolling with many asking the couple to break up.
Virat then took the matter into his own hand and said it was nothing but a matter of “shame” to hold Anushka accountable for his performance.
Anushka and Virat have been married for over two and a half year now. The couple who started dating in 2013 tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2017.
