About Eid-Ul-Adha

The Bakrid holiday, also called Eid-Ul-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice, is a significant religious event for Muslims around the world. Muslims are gathered at mosques and surrounding places of worship during Bakrid for special prayers. A special prayer of the congregation, usually conducted in the morning, marks the beginning of the day. A sermon, pointing out the importance of this occasion and encouraging actions for charity, compassion or sacrifice, is followed by a prayer.

During this period Muslims pray, reflect and express gratitude for the good fortune they have had in their lives. This is a period of spiritual devotion, which enables you to build an intimate relationship with Allah. Muslims also perform the ritual of sacrificing an animal, typically a goat, sheep, or cow, in honor of Ibrahim’s ultimate act of faith. Meat from sacrifice will be shared with families, friends or persons in need for the promotion of community and generosity. Charity and donations play a vital role during the Muslim festival Eid-Ul-Adha. The provision of food, clothing and other basic needs to those in need should be encouraged by Muslims.
