Samay Raina is once again at the centre of a heated online debate after his latest comedy special Still Alive triggered a fresh controversy. The comedian’s remarks during a promotional interview have now snowballed into a full-blown social media clash with journalist-podcaster Shubhankar Mishra.

Samay Raina Calls Out Shubhankar Mishra’s Hypocrisy
The controversy began when Samay Raina referred to a “news channel guy” during an interview without naming him. He claimed that this person was once a huge admirer who repeatedly approached him for collaborations during the peak of India’s Got Latent. However, the same individual later turned critical and called for him to be “cleaned out” when controversy hit the show.
Soon after, Raina confirmed that he was referring to Shubhankar Mishra. He went on to label him a “thali ka baigan”, implying that Mishra changed sides based on convenience.
To support his claims, Raina shared a screenshot of direct message, which showed Mishra praising him in the past. These were contrasted with Mishra’s later criticism during the legal controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent in 2025.
Shubhankar Mishra Compares Samay To Ravana, Gets Trolled
The situation quickly intensified when Shubhankar Mishra responded publicly. He accused Samay Raina of manipulating the narrative and using selective screenshots to gain sympathy.
Taking to social media, Mishra wrote, “Ravana had a million flaws, yet he never sold out his mother’s name, nor used fake screenshots through his PR team to play the Victim Card. He was the villain, but even he had his own gravity.”
He also argued that Raina’s comedy, especially jokes around sensitive topics, justified the backlash he faced earlier.
However, Mishra’s statement did not go down well with many netizens. Instead, it triggered a wave of trolling directed at him. Fans of Samay Raina flooded social media platforms with reactions. Many accused Mishra of hypocrisy and opportunism, pointing to his past admiration for the comedian.
One user wrote, “Ravan me lakh buriyan thi but kabhi usne fame ke liye kisi insaan ka use nahi kiya. You are fame ka bukha. In your old podcast you said “I Love Samay Raina” and now you are doing this.”
Another commented, “Agar uske screenshot fake h to tu asli release kr de.”

Samay Raina And Shubhankar Mishra’s Feud Linked To IGL
The current feud is closely linked to the fallout of India’s Got Latent in February 2025. At the time, Samay Raina faced FIRs and legal scrutiny over alleged obscene and derogatory remarks made on the show.
Shubhankar Mishra had then released a 17-minute video criticising the content, which Raina now cites as proof of his “double-faced” behaviour.
Adding to the tension, Raina’s recent special Still Alive has also drawn criticism from other public figures. This has further fuelled the ongoing narrative battle between the comedian and the journalist.
As things stand, both sides continue to exchange remarks on social media. While Mishra insists he will not stay silent if misrepresented, Samay Raina appears firm on exposing what he calls “podcasting hypocrisy”.
