From OTT to Public Squares, Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj Finds Renewed Support, DSGMC Announces Screenings

After its removal from Zee5, Diljit Dosanjh's Satluj has found renewed support as the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) announced public screenings and educational seminars to keep the film's story accessible to audiences.

Diljit Dosanjh: After facing an unexpected setback on its OTT journey, Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj is finding renewed support beyond digital platforms.

From OTT to Public Screenings

Just days following the removal of Satluj from Zee5 in India, DSGMC had come out clearly against the move, stating their intention to bring the movie to the masses. DSGMC stated that they intend to conduct the screening and discussion on the life and times of the social activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who inspired the movie. The committee stated that the move is to ensure that people still get to see the film despite its removal from the streaming site.

DSGMC Announces Educational Seminars

Harmeet Singh Kalka, president of the DSGMC, mentioned that seminars would be conducted at various educational institutions affiliated to the organization. The seminar would revolve around the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, his social activism, and the larger message conveyed through the biography. The members of the committee have also been told to conduct screenings of the movie in their respective areas so that more people can view the movie.

What is the story behind Satluj?

The movie titled Satluj has been directed by Honey Trehan, and the lead actor is Diljit Dosanjh. He plays the character of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who was a bank clerk but emerged as a human rights activist of Punjab in the 1990s. The movie is about the activist’s endeavors in documenting illegal killings and cremations during the chaotic times in the state. It was originally named Panjab 95, and it took quite some time to get certified.

Why Was the Movie Pulled?

Diljit Dosanjh: Satluj was premiered on Zee5 and then subsequently pulled down from the OTT platform in India. The streaming service offered only a generic “development” explanation for this step, without elaborating further on its reasons.
