Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 has opened well at the Indian box office. The film earned Rs 23 crore net on Day 1, surprising many trade experts. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, this comedy marks a solid return for the Housefull franchise and offers Akshay a much-needed theatrical boost.
On the other hand, Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life has seen a sharp fall on Day 2 after an average start. The gangster drama failed to hold ground and lost a major chunk of its audience in just 24 hours.
Housefull 5 Box Office Collection Day 1
Housefull 5 recorded Rs 24 crore net on its opening day. It had an overall occupancy of 28.88%. Most shows were full in the evening and night slots. The film benefited from same-day bookings and strong word of mouth. It was earlier expected to stay under Rs 20 crore, but the numbers proved otherwise.
The weekend outlook is strong. Advance bookings for Saturday and Sunday are picking up. Trade reports suggest the film may earn around Rs 85 crore net by Sunday night.

Comparison With Housefull 4
Housefull 5 has done better than Housefull 4 in terms of Day 1 numbers. The fourth film in the series had earned Rs 19.08 crore net when it released in 2019. That makes Housefull 5 ahead by nearly Rs 4 crore.
However, the gap between the two releases is six years. Trade experts feel that a Rs 25 to 30 crore opening would have been ideal to show franchise growth. Still, this is a positive sign for the series.
Housefull 5 Vs Kesari Chapter 2
Akshay Kumar’s last release was Kesari Chapter 2, which opened with Rs 7.84 crore net. Compared to that, Housefull 5 collected Rs 24 crore net, which is nearly 193% higher. That’s a huge jump and shows clear audience preference for comedy over courtroom drama.
Even though Kesari Chapter 2 had strong reviews, it failed to connect widely with the public. Now, all eyes are on Housefull 5 to be Akshay’s big box office comeback.
Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 2
Thug Life started with Rs 15.5 crore net on Day 1. But Day 2 saw a major dip. The film collected only Rs 7.15 crore net - a drop of 51.6%. This is a worrying sign so early in the run.

Total 2-Day Earnings: 22.65 cr nett
Its Hindi version made just Rs 65 lakh on Day 1. On Day 2, the figure went lower to around Rs 25–30 lakh. Lifetime Hindi collection may not even touch Rs 5 crore. The two-day total is Rs 22.65 crore. This is far below Kamal Haasan’s last hit, Vikram, which earned Rs 60 crore in two days. Even Indian 2 had done Rs 44 crore by Day 2.
The Karnataka ban has also hurt Thug Life badly. Kamal’s comment on Kannada language led to the film being pulled from screens there. As of now, the road ahead looks difficult for this big-budget film.
