Kiara Advani got emotional while speaking about the difficult changes she experienced after becoming a mother. In a podcast video for Mother’s Day 2026, the actress opened up about postpartum struggles, identity shifts and learning to be kinder to herself after welcoming daughter Saraayah with husband Sidharth Malhotra last year.
The actress stayed away from signing new films after childbirth. She will next be seen opposite Yash in Toxic. During a candid interview with Raj Shamani, Kiara revealed how motherhood completely transformed her emotionally, mentally and physically.
Kiara Advani Opens Up About Postpartum Changes
Talking about how motherhood changed her life, Kiara said, “Everything changes in you as a personality. I feel before and after becoming a mum, I’m a completely different person in every way. And I’ve come to terms with it also.”
She further added, “There’s so much more purpose in everything you do. I’m constantly thinking of leading an example for my daughter. What would my daughter feel if I did this?”
Kiara Advani also stressed that postpartum struggles should be discussed more openly. Sharing her personal experience, she said, “Postpartum should be something that’s spoken of much more. Everyone’s journey is different postpartum. It hits you in different ways physically and emotionally.”
The actress also recalled suddenly facing unexpected skin issues after childbirth. She shared, “Earlier, it’d make me feel – Oh my god! Why has this happened? But now in my life, nothing can stop me and I’ll continue to live.”
Actress Reveals Motherhood Brought A Major Identity Shift
Kiara admitted that becoming a mother completely changed the way she looked at herself and life. She explained how difficult it was to adjust emotionally during the first few months after childbirth.
The actress said, “There’s such an identity shift. It’s such a new world. In that moment, it takes time for the woman who’s going through to give herself grace.”
Kiara also revealed that she spent years being other-centric and only after becoming a mother did she learn the importance of self-care and boundaries. She added, “After 34 years, I’ve learnt to set boundaries. I’ve learnt not to do overcritical conversations with myself about everything.”
The actress confessed that social media affected her deeply during the early phase of motherhood. She admitted, “If I read anything about myself, it’d get to me. I’d go into a very defensive mode. Social media can be a spiral.”
Kiara Advani On Balancing Motherhood And Career
Kiara Advani also explained how motherhood doubled her responsibilities. According to the actress, taking care of a newborn while managing a home is one of the toughest jobs.
She said, “When you’re sitting at home, the amount of work a mother or a homemaker does is more than anything any of us can do.”
The actress revealed that although she wanted to take time off after childbirth, she continued planning future projects and attending narrations from home. She also echoed Deepika Padukone’s earlier demand for eight-hour film shifts to help actresses balance work and motherhood better.
Interestingly, Kiara revealed that she shot for Toxic: A Fairytale for Grownups during seven months of her pregnancy and even performed action scenes. She shared that only the film’s director and producer knew about her pregnancy at the time.
Kiara and Sidharth Malhotra began dating while filming Shershaah and tied the knot in Rajasthan in 2023. The couple welcomed daughter Saraayah in July 2025. Since then, fans have loved seeing this softer and more emotional side of Kiara Advani.
