Jailer review

Jailer review: Rajinikanth starrer Jailer has been released on the big screens on 10th August. The multi-starrer film was the much-anticipated film of superstar Rajinikanth. It also features big actors such as Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, and Shiva Rajkumar in pivotal roles. The film received a good response from viewers and makers are delighted to see the Box office results of the film.

Story

Rajinikanth’s film features the story of a Tihar Jail warden ‘Tiger’ Muthuvan Pandian, who was a feared jailer of his time but now he is retired and living his life with his family. His son Arjun (Vasanth Ravi) is the commissioner of police and Muthu raised him to be honest and fearless like him. He focuses on his son’s career and lives a happy life with his wife Vijaya (Ramya Krishnan), daughter-in-law  Shwetha (Mirna Menon), and grandson.  He is happy to go vegetable shopping, assist his grandson in filming Insta reels, and engage in abrasive banter with a cab driver (Yogi Babu) who frequently threatens to run him over.

The savage Varma (Vinayakan), the leader of a gang of smugglers, is being pursued by his son, an assistant commissioner of police. The cop vanishes one day and there are rumors that he has passed away. Muthu's wife holds him accountable for Arjun's misfortune. She laments that it was Muthu who had trained him to be so honest and stubborn. Muthu Pandian turns into his ‘Tiger’ avatar and kills the person who is believed to have killed his son. Muthu takes the action to the next level with the help of snipers provided to him by his friend Narsimha (Shiva Rajkumar).

Performance

The opening half of Jailer is mostly entertaining. The second half isn't nearly as exciting. In truth, it's slowing and disconnected, despite a few of the final twists that deliver a decent impact. Muthu confronts a film director named Balu in the second half and tells him not to foist rubbish on the audience in the name of commercial cinema. He proposes providing them with clean family entertainment. Jailer is a family film but the film fails to live up to Muthu’s prescription. The film contains too much violence and it is not suitable for all age groups. The film fails to be a family entertainer.

The film has only one song which is performed by Tamanaaah Bhatia. She also shines in the movie with her short but effective role. The other guests finish their part and leave. Rajinikanth is left to carry the burden of the script. The versatile actor, who is portraying an age-appropriate character, pulls his weight throughout in a part, and despite lacking the usual vigor and vitality; the film fits him like a glove.

Star cast

Rajinikanth’s movie is not only a Tamil movie. The star cast of the film makes it a pan-India film as the film casts superstars from big industries like Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Shiva Rajkumar. The film also features Ramya Krishnan, Mirna Menon, and Vasanth Ravi in pivotal roles.
