Kafas review: Too Much Drama, Too Little Soul! Sharman Joshi, Mona Singh starrer Falls Short Despite High Expectations

Kafas review

Kafas review: Choosing a path less travelled, ‘Kafas’, featuring Sharman Joshi and Mona Singh, gave trailers and teasers a miss. Despite the intriguing promotional strategy, the show appears to have been drowned in drama, detracting from its central, sensitive issue of child abuse.

An Engaging Start Gives Way to Disappointment

‘Kafas’, an adaptation of the successful British series ‘Dark Money’, starts strong with a captivating storyline revolving around a young starlet on the rise. However, the show falters in delivering an engaging narrative. The characters, hollow in their depth, often resort to bellowing lines rather than showcasing heartfelt emotion, a move that detracts from the show’s impact.

A Missed Opportunity for Addressing Crucial Social Concerns

The show ambitiously takes on a series of grave social issues, from child abuse to the presence of predators in unsuspecting environments and inappropriate conversations. However, the delicate handling required for such issues seems lost in the overt dramatic representation. The final two episodes serve as a bitter reminder of the show’s missed potential.

Substandard Performances and Inadequate Character Development

Despite boasting of renowned actors Sharman Joshi and Mona Singh, the performances in ‘Kafas’ feel lacklustre due to inadequate character development and uninspiring dialogues. Among the cast, Mikhail Gandhi, playing the young starlet, seems to offer some respite with his commendable performance.

‘Kafas’ had a potent script and a sensitive subject that could have been a recipe for success. However, the over-emphasis on dramatics and a lack of sensitivity has left viewers with a bitter taste. Receiving a rating of 2 out of 5, ‘Kafas’ is now streaming on SonyLiv, serving as a reminder of how crucial it is to handle sensitive subjects with the right balance of drama and empathy.
