Abhishek Bachchan has sparked fresh conversation with his strong views on Bollywood and global comparisons. Speaking at the ET NOW Global Business Summit 2026, the actor made it clear that he does not believe the Hindi film industry needs to follow international trends.
Instead, he pointed to India’s massive cinema audience and also praised Ranveer Singh’s recent Blockbuster Dhurandhar.
Abhishek Bachchan Says ‘Dhurandhar’ Can Overshadow Any Film
During the summit, Abhishek Bachchan described the Indian film industry as the “largest film industry” in the world. He stressed that comparisons with global hits often overlook scale.
He said, “Our numbers are just so large that I think it’s erroneous for us to say – Oh, when are we gonna create our Squid Game? We make Dhurandhar. Look at the numbers. Look at the amount of tickets sold. That’s gonna outshine any other show, any other movie. So it’s a matter of numbers.”
DON'T MISS
He said the Korean TV and film industries do amazing work but added, “What is their viewership? What are those numbers? They’ll pale in comparison to Indians going to movies. So we have the numbers already, so what kind of numbers are you trying to achieve to become that fad? I don’t think we want to be a fad.”
Dhurandhar Sequel Keep Fans Curious
Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar has remained a major talking point since its theatrical release on Dec. 5. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Rakesh Bedi. The project is backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios.
Now, attention has shifted to Dhurandhar 2. The sequel is already in production and is scheduled for release on March 19. Recent behind-the-scenes visuals from Mumbai sets have increased excitement. Clips showing Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt in a tense exchange have triggered fresh speculation about the story.
Industry reports suggest the sequel may dive deeper into Hamza Mazhari’s revenge arc. It is also expected to reveal the identity of the mysterious ‘Bade Sahab’. While some believe the character draws inspiration from Dawood Ibrahim, the filmmakers have not confirmed this.
Abhishek Bachchan Work Front
On the professional front, Abhishek Bachchan was last seen in Kaalidhar Laapata. He will next star in Siddharth Anand’s King. The film features Shah Rukh Khan, along with Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji and Jaideep Ahlawat. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix, King is set for a Christmas Day release on Dec 25.
