Kishore Kumar’s birth anniversary: Lata Mangeshkar pays tribute to the legendary artiste

Today marks the 91st birth anniversary of the legendary music maestro – Kishore Kumar. Not only as a singer, but he is also known for his immense contribution to Indian cinema as an actor, lyricist, composer, producer, director, and screenwriter. Thanks to the age of technology, his golden voice and work is still heard and loved more than ever.

In his career span of over two-decades, Kishore Kumar won 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and also received 27 Filmfare awards nominations. From romantic melodies to soft numbers, he blessed Indian audience with many evergreen tracks. Ek ladki Bheegi Bhagi si, Mere Sapno Ki Rani, Chookar Mere Mann Ko, Yeh Sham Mastani are some of his most popular tracks.

The legendary singer, who would have been 91 today, is still loved and fondly remembered by music lovers all over the world. On the occasion of his birth anniversary, Lata Mangeshkar, who has given many hit duets with Kishore Kumar, took to her verified Twitter account to remember the artiste.

“Namaskar. Aaj hamare Kishore da ki jayanti hai. Kishore de ek harfan maulaa the. Din bhar sabko hasaana ye unka pasandida kaam tha, main to unko milne ke baad ek pal bhi hanse bina reh nahi sakti thi. Ye sab hote hue bhi apne kaam mein wo 100 per cent sure hote the (today is Kishore da’s birth anniversary. Kishore da was an all-rounder. He loved making people laugh all through the day, I would keep laughing every time we met. Despite all this, he was 100 per cent sure about his work),” she wrote.


She also attached a video link of her popular duet “Jai jai Shiv Shankar” with Kishore Kumar from the 1974 film “Aap Ki Kasam” featuring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz.

Some of their other duets are- “Tere bina zindagi se”, “Gaata rahe mera dil”, “Bheegi bheegi raaton mein”, “Dekha ek khwab”, “Tere mere milan ki yeh raina”, “Tum aa gaye ho noor aa gaya hai” and “Iss miod pe jaate hain”.

Kishore Kumar decided to retire from music industry in September 1987 as he was dissatisfied with the kind of songs made. Same year in October, he died of heart attack in Bombay.
