Kuttey Movie Review: Aasmaan Bhardwaj takes dad Vishal’s legacy forward; Tabu dominates this quirky story

Kuttey Movie Review: Director Aasmaan Bhardwaj has taken father Vishal Bharadwaj’s legacy forward in Kuttey with great confidence and added his own essence to it. With his dream team, he tell a quirky story and serves top-notch content.

Aasmaan has written the film with Vishal as the dialogue writer. It;s a maze where characters are unpredictable. There is chaos, there is madness, but there is method to that madness. While poetry is Vishal Bhardwaj’s forte, his son has a quirky sense of humour and even quirkier way to execute it. He will make you laugh at the most traumatic scenes without sounding illogical.

Massive star cast

Even the massive star cast has not distracted Aasmaan. There is no gender to any character in this movie – be it a man, or a woman. The director has handled the climax brilliantly with Faiz Ahmed Faiz poetry playing in the background. You only wish that characters of Konkona Sen and Naseeruddin Shah were allowed to be more adventurous .

But every character has been written brilliantly. Tabu dominates the screen as Poonam aka Pami, a police officer who has fought misogyny only to crush the men who subjected her to it. A spontaneous character that Tabu is, she seems to be living the role that she gets.

Arjun Kapoor is a corrupt police officer who is also religious and observes fast on Tuesdays. He worships the god before he takes a gun and butchers people for money. Konkona Sen Sharma creates magic effortlessly and deserved more screen time.

Characters face the consequences

Radhika Madan deserves to be seen and appreciated more. Kumud Mishra is a beast and one that doesn’t make noise but lets his action speak. Kudos to him. Firebrand director Aasmaan Bhardwaj doesn’t let his characters walk away without facing the consequences of their evil.

Like the movie, its music too is quirky. Gulzar has created magic and Vishal Bhardwaj is no less. Vaat Lagli and Tera Saath are songs of two diverse genre but you have to listen to them to understand the legendary poet’s range.
