Lara Dutta recently opened up about her early days in Bollywood and her experience working on Andaaz. While she praised Akshay Kumar for his support, another incident from the film’s promotions shows a completely different side of the actress.
In a recent interaction, Lara described Akshay as a friend, philosopher and guide during Andaaz. She shared that both she and Priyanka Chopra were newcomers at the time, entering the industry with “stars in their eyes” and no proper guidance. She credited Akshay for creating a safe and respectful environment and for never taking advantage of their inexperience.
She also remembered a frightening moment during the shoot when she almost drowned in strong waves while wearing heavy leather clothes. Lara said she “sank like a rock”, and it was Akshay who saved her. Later, he helped her overcome that fear by encouraging her to learn swimming for their film Blue.

But DYK? There’s a shocking moment from Andaaz promotions in Chandni Chowk, which she revealed earlier.
Lara Dhutta Once Thrashed A Man In Public
During an old conversation with Hauterrfly, Lara recalled how she, along with Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar, visited Chandni Chowk for the film’s music launch. It was her debut film, and she was dressed in a saree for the event.
As they entered the crowded venue, someone in the crowd behaved inappropriately and pinched her waist. Lara reacted instantly. She grabbed the man’s hand, pulled him out of the crowd, and started beating him in front of everyone.
The situation quickly got intense, and Akshay stepped in to stop her. He tried to pull her back and said, “What are you doing? You are an actress. You can’t do this.”
Lara’s Career Journey
Lara Dutta has always maintained that she is not a damsel in distress. She spoke about living alone in Mumbai since the age of 17 and building her life with independence. She also pointed out how safe the city has been for her.
After winning Miss Universe 2000, Lara made a strong debut with Andaaz. She went on to star in popular films like No Entry, Partner, and Housefull, showing her versatility, especially in comedy roles.
In recent years, she has taken on more serious and impactful roles. Her portrayal of Indira Gandhi in Bell Bottom was widely appreciated. She also featured in the series Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond.
Looking ahead, Lara will be seen as Kaikeyi in Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. She will also reunite with Akshay Kumar in Welcome To The Jungle.
