Gujarati filmmaker Mahesh Kalavadia, widely known as Mahesh Jirawala, has been confirmed dead days after the Air India crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025. DNA reports matched with his family’s samples confirmed his identity, bringing an emotional end to the days-long search.
Jirawala had been missing since the crash. His mobile phone’s last location showed he was near the crash site. A burnt Activa scooter recovered from the area matched his vehicle details. His phone was later found switched off at the scene. These clues had led his wife to fear the worst, and she submitted DNA for confirmation.
DNA Report Confirms Mahesh Jirawala Is Dead
As reported by NDTV, Jirawala’s family initially held out hope, unwilling to accept that he had died in the crash. A police source said, “They were not ready to believe his death.” But when the DNA report came back positive and the authorities confirmed the scooter’s chassis number, the family finally accepted the truth.
Mahesh Jirawala was a resident of Naroda in Ahmedabad and was known for directing Gujarati music videos as well as social awareness projects. He also directed a Gujarati feature film in 2019 and was the CEO of Mahesh Jirawala Productions. He leaves behind his wife Hetal and their two children.

The Air India flight was headed to London when it crashed into the B J Medical Hostel in Shahibaug shortly after takeoff. Over 279 people died in the crash (as per the latest inputs), making it one of the deadliest in recent history.
So far, 231 victims have been identified through DNA testing. The confirmed victims include 155 Indians, 36 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, one Canadian, and nine local residents. Authorities have handed over 210 bodies to families.
