Metro In Dino Box Office Collection Day 2: Anurag Basu’s Film Jumps BIG On Saturday, But Is It Enough For Respectable Weekend Total?

Metro In Dino saw a big boost at the box office on day 2 with around Rs 6 crore collections, but it still may miss the Rs 20 crore weekend mark. Trade experts feel the film could end up as an average performer if Sunday’s numbers don’t hold strong.

Anurag Basu’s Metro In Dino finally saw a much-needed jump on Saturday after a slow start. Starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan, the romantic drama picked up momentum on day two, giving fans and trade experts some hope.

On Saturday, the Hindi circuits saw an overall occupancy of 27.18 per cent. The morning shows opened low at 11.65 per cent but steadily improved through the day. Afternoon shows drew in 30.95 per cent, and by the evening, occupancy touched almost 39 per cent.

Metro In Dino Box Office Collection Day 2

As per early estimates from Sacnilk, the film collected around Rs 6 crore on Saturday. This takes its two-day total to about Rs 9 crore. Compared to its Rs 3.5 crore opening day, the growth looks promising. But trade experts feel the film still has a long way to go.

Day Collection (Rs cr)
Day 1 (Friday) Rs 3.5 cr
Day 2 (Saturday) Rs 6 cr
Total (2 Days) Rs 9.5 cr net

According to them, Metro In Dino needs to earn close to Rs 20 crore by Sunday to reach a respectable weekend total. If it misses this mark, the film could land in the average category.

The movie, which hit theatres on July 4, has been praised for its soulful music by Pritam, touching performances, and relatable city love stories. But despite this positive buzz, competition from other releases and its niche romantic drama appeal could limit its box office run.

For comparison, Basu’s earlier film Life in a... Metro (2007), which this one follows in spirit, had a very small opening of Rs 80 lakh. However, thanks to strong word-of-mouth, it went on to collect over Rs 24 crore in its lifetime. Whether Metro In Dino can pull off a similar turnaround is still uncertain.

Metro In Dino: Story, Cast And What’s Familiar

Metro In Dino is directed and written by Anurag Basu and is produced by T-Series Films and Anurag Basu Productions. Much like its predecessor, the film tells the intertwined stories of several couples figuring out love, heartbreak, and life in India’s bustling cities.

The film stars Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles. Supporting them are Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Konkona, who was part of Life in a... Metro returns to the sequel, connecting both films through her character.

The soundtrack by Pritam has already gained love for its emotional depth and vibe that matches the mood of the stories.

Can It Hold On Sunday?

The big question is whether the film can maintain this momentum on Sunday. Saturday’s rise gave it some hope, but hitting the Rs 20 crore weekend mark still looks tough.

If Metro In Dino fails to reach this target, it might end up as an average box office performer, despite the strong performances and heartwarming stories. But if word-of-mouth grows stronger, the film could still have a decent run in the days ahead. For now, Sunday’s numbers will be crucial in deciding its fate.
