Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his demise on Thursday, describing him as an actor with intensity, individuality and an unmistakable presence. Modi said on X that Patekar brought versatility and creativity to every role. He also noted that the actor was admired for his frank and forthright views. The PM called the loss a deep void and offered condolences to the family, friends and admirers.

Other leaders also mourned him. Home Minister Amit Shah called the demise an irreparable loss to the world of art, while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described it as a massive shock. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Karnataka CM D.K. Shivakumar also condoled the actor’s death.
A Career That Defined Intensity
Nana Patekar: Born Vishwanath Patekar in 1951, he made his film debut with Gaman (1978). He was admired for roles in Parinda, Krantiveer, Welcome and Raajneeti. He won three National Film Awards and four Filmfare Awards, and was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2013. Beyond cinema, he served in the Indian Army’s Territorial Army and ran the Naam Foundation, which supports farmers’ families.
