Actor Yami Gautam has spoken out after a social media controversy over her accidentally liking an Instagram reel that appeared to mock Kriti Sanon’s recent Best Actress win. The incident caught attention online on March 5, prompting Yami to explain that it was unintentional and that she did not mean to target any fellow actor. She noted that being tagged in many posts daily can sometimes lead to accidental clicks.
Here’s What Yami Gautam Said
On X, she wrote, “It has come to my notice that I apparently LIKED a reel that is condescending toward another actor. We get tagged in multiple things every day, and this appeared during an award-function reference like any other tag. It isn’t true and was definitely not done consciously, if anything, it may have been clicked accidentally. Never in my life have I resorted to cheap PR tactics. I have always focused on my work and moved on.”
She added, “In the world of clickbait, it’s tempting for even dignified social media portals to harp on this and turn it into coffee-table gossip. But I would hope they would consider that I have earned a better reputation than that. I have no PR team, have respectfully cleared my stance on entertainment award shows long ago, and remain focused on my work.”
Netizens React To Her Statement
The post received a mix of reactions online. One fan wrote, “You don’t need to explain anything. Your work and your films speak louder than any rumour.” Another commented, “When something is definitely accidental, it usually doesn’t need an ESSAY to defend it.” A third said, “This is the level of scrutiny celebrities live with – even a tap on the screen needs an explanation.”
For those unaware, the controversy followed Kriti Sanon’s Best Actress win at the Zee Cine Awards for Tere Ishk Mein. Some fans felt Yami Gautam should have won for her performance in Haq. The reel in question showed Sanon celebrating her win alongside a past interview clip of Yami saying, “You try everything, and it still doesn’t work. So, I have stopped seeking any kind of validation. If I get that award, then I am a good actress, and otherwise, I am not. Nothing like that.”
The video ended with the question, “Is it fair?”, suggesting Yami may have been more deserving. Her accidental like quickly gained attention, especially on Reddit, where some users called her “insecure” or “shady.” Others accused her of undermining a colleague, while many defended her, saying she may have been genuinely snubbed.
