Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan’s classic film Parineeta has completed 20 years. To celebrate this milestone, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra hosted a special screening in Mumbai on Monday.
The event turned into a star-studded evening with Vidya Balan, Rekha, Dia Mirza, and many others in attendance. Fans and media were especially delighted to see the heartwarming bond between Vidya and Rekha at the event.
Rekha Calls Vidya Balan ‘Daughter’ At Parineeta Screening
At the screening, veteran actress Rekha surprised everyone by revealing a personal story. She said, “This is something we never imagined, we prayed for it, and deep down I knew it, but I never knew that I’d be alive to see this day.”
Rekha then spoke about how she gave her first-ever audition for Parineeta. She recalled, “This was the first film in my life, I ever gave an audition for. I didn’t even know what it meant back then. Vidhu Vinod Chopra told me that if you don’t audition, you are out. Honestly, I am here because of Vidya.”
Rekha further praised Vidya Balan’s beauty and acting craft. She said, “I couldn’t take my eyes off Vidya… she was Parineeta. I gained a daughter in Vidya. After the whole song was done, she came to my vanity van, held my hand and kissed it. But seeing this film, I want to say today, I don’t think I have learned as much as I learned watching her.”
Vidya Balan Wins Hearts With Her Gesture
In videos from the event, Vidya was seen rushing towards Rekha, hugging her warmly, and touching her feet. The sweet gesture went viral online. Fans praised her values and respect. One comment read, “Dil jit liya Vidya mam ne.” Another wrote, “Isko kehte hai sanskar.”

Vidya looked stunning in a red saree and even performed the Dhunuchi dance at the re-release celebration. She was also seen dancing joyfully with producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Vidya Balan Starrer Parineeta Returns To Theatres
Originally released in 2005, Parineeta was Vidya Balan’s Bollywood debut and remains one of her most celebrated performances. Directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar, the film also starred Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Dia Mirza in key roles.
To mark the 20-year milestone, Parineeta will be re-released in theatres for one week starting August 29.
