Priyanka Chopra says she has grown up in Lucknow, knows there is lot of fear, especially after 7 pm

Priyanka Chopra: Actor Priyanka Chopra who was in Lucknow as a UNICEF ambassador during her recent India visit, expressed her fears on women safety. The Desi Girl interacted with students, parents, and police officials in Lucknow. She also shared the photos and videos. In one such video, she is seen speaking to police officials about the steps that have been taken to make the state safer for women. She further says that she had grown up in Lucknow and knew how scary it can get for women in the state, especially after 7 pm.

Woman Power Line

In the video Priyanka is seen visiting the Woman Power Line (WPL) facility, from where Uttar Pradesh’s 24/7 phone line for women is operated. A part of her caption read, “The safety and security of women is an urgent need. We hear many stories from across India of violence and harassment against women and girls, everyday. There is a lot of work that needs to be done and that begins with the most basic… protection by law and order/police.”

Fear files

Taliking to a policewoman, Priyanka says, “Toh aap mujhe ek baat bataiye, matlab ek UP jaise state mein, main bhi Lucknow mein pali badi hun… Matlab ek fear toh boht zyada hota hai khaas kar 7 baje ke baad (Please tell me something, in a state like UP, I have also grown-up in Lucknow… There is a lot of fear, especially after 7 pm.)”. The official can be seen telling Priyanka that she will show the data. They then walk into a room where Priyanka watches the functioning of a ‘call tracking unit’, run by an outsourced department.

“They are not police… Because we want it should be a neutral person. Police could maybe hide the matter, so we want to bring that neutrality. They (call tracking team) are trained, they are all certified, they work around the clock,” the officer tells Priyanka.
