Rakasa Movie Review: The much-awaited Telugu film Rakasa, starring Sangeeth Shobhan, has finally arrived in cinemas. The horror-comedy promised a fun mix of scares and humour. However, early reactions suggest it may not fully deliver on that promise.

Directed by Manasa Sharma and produced by Niharika Konidela, the film attempts to blend folklore with modern comedy. While the concept sounds fresh on paper, the execution has drawn mixed to negative feedback.

Rakasa Movie Review: Telugu Critic Calls It ‘Below-Par Fantasy’

Popular Telugu critic Venky Reviews did not hold back in his first impression of the film. Sharing his Rakasa movie review, he wrote, “#Rakasa A Silly Below-Par Fantasy/Horror Comedy. First half is flat, with nothing really engaging and the comedy barely working. The second half is slightly better, with Vennela Kishore generating a few laughs and some one-liners landing, but overall it still feels amateurish.”

He further added, “The concept had potential, but the execution is too silly. Sangeeth Shobhan tries his best to carry it, but neither the fantasy/horror elements nor the comedy fully work due to the weak screenplay. Below average!#RaaKaaSaa.”

The critic rated the film just 2.25 out of 5 stars, calling it a missed opportunity despite an interesting premise.

About This Sangeeth Shobhan Starrer Horror Comedy

Rakasa follows the story of Veeru (also known as Veera Babu), an NRI who returns from the United States to his village with hopes of marrying his childhood love. However, things take an unexpected turn when he finds out she is set to marry someone else.

After a night of heavy drinking, Veeru ends up at an abandoned fort. There, he accidentally awakens a mysterious and dangerous entity known as Rakasa. What follows is a mix of supernatural chaos and comedy as he tries to deal with the consequences.

The film features Nayan Sarika alongside Shobhan, with strong supporting performances from actors like Brahmaji, Getup Srinu, Ashish Vidyarthi, Tanikella Bharani and Rohini.

Produced under the banners of Pink Elephant Pictures and Zee Studios, Rakasa runs for around 2 hours and 13 minutes. The film was released in theatres on April 3 (today) with a U/A certificate.

Composed by Anudeep Dev, the film’s music includes a “Snake Dance” track, which gained attention before release. Interestingly, the film is also set to stream on Netflix as part of its 2026 South Indian slate after its theatrical run.

While Rakasa had all the ingredients for an entertaining horror-comedy, early reviews suggest it struggles to strike the right balance. Despite the cast’s sincere efforts, especially Sangeeth Shobhan’s, the film falls short due to weak writing and uneven execution.
