Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently shared a rare and honest reflection about regret, learning, and growing older. Despite a career that spans more than four decades, the veteran actor admitted that there are many things he wishes he had learned earlier, when he had more time and energy.
Now 83, Amitabh opened up in a thoughtful blog post about how learning never really stops. Even after winning four National Awards for Best Actor, he believes there is always room to grow. However, he also acknowledged that learning becomes harder with age, especially in a world that is changing faster than ever.
What Amitabh Bachchan Said
In his latest blog, Amitabh spoke about the regret of delayed learning. He wrote, “Each day is a learning… and the regret is that what needs to be learnt should have been learnt many many years ago… the regret is more because what is being learnt now did not exist then .. and now the desire and effort and energy to learn diminishes – with time and age.”
He explained that new systems and innovations are evolving so quickly that by the time one starts learning them, they already feel outdated. Sharing insights from recent meetings, Amitabh said the most important lesson for him has been to first get the basics right. After that, he believes it is wiser to rely on trained and updated professionals to handle specialised work.
The actor also spoke about accepting one’s limitations. According to him, there is nothing wrong with admitting that you are not qualified for a particular task. What matters is taking responsibility, hiring the right experts and making sure the job is done well.
Amitabh also highlighted how work culture has changed over the years. Comparing his generation with today’s approach, he wrote, “In my time… if you did not know the job, you regretted and did not or could not do it… but now you take up the job, and get it done through OUTSOURCING. Oh boy, what a relief to have got the term right.”
