Mannu Bhandari, the famous writer of Hindi literature, died on Monday. She was 90 years old. She was born on 3rd April, 1939 in Bhanpura village of Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh. Classical compositions like ‘Mahabhoj’ and ‘Aapka Bunty’ made her a famous. However, till now the information has not been received as to what has been the reason for the death of the writer. She was recognized as a writer who attacked the malevolent society. Hearing the news of Mannu Bhandari’s death, there has been an influx of people paying tribute to her on social media.
Mannu Bhandari wrote more than one great stories and novels. Movies have also been made on the books written by her. The film ‘Rajnigandha’ was made in 1974 based on her story ‘Yeh Sach Hai’. Basu Chatterjee made this film. One of her famous works is ‘Aapka Bunty’. Bhandari husband was well-known litterateur Rajendra Yadav. Her parents named her Mahendra Kumari. But after taking her step in the writing field, she changed her name to Mannu. The reason behind this was that people used to call her as Mannu in her childhood. People kept calling her by the name of Mannu Bhandari throughout her life.

Mannu Bhandari also did a long teaching job at Miranda House College, Delhi University. People remember her for her contribution to Hindi literature. People get a glimpse of her real personality after reading the collections ‘I Lost’, ‘A Picture of Three Eyes’, ‘Ek Plate Saabab’, ‘Yeh Sach Hai’, ‘Aankhon Dekha Jhooth’ and ‘Hung’. Mannu Bhandari married the famous Hindi writer Rajendra Yadav. He was also the editor of Hans. However, the relationship of both came on the verge of ending after a while. After decades of marriage, the two separated. Both lived separately till the last time of Rajendra Yadav.
The novel ‘Aapka Bunty’ can be read to understand the sorrows and pains of her life. In this, she has mentioned the tragedy after the breakup of her marriage. This novel brought her fame. Another novel ‘Mahabhoj’ by Mannu Bhandari tells about the devaluation, gimmicks in politics, social life. In this novel, there is a story of village Saroha, where after the death of a character named Bisesar, all the politicians prove their selfishness by keeping her in the political center.
