Rewind 2022

Rewind 2022: TV in 2022 gave us some of the all-time best shows. With diverse storylines, they came in all shapes, sizes and genres, and were gloriously unpredictable. While a Marvel series name-dropped Shah Rukh Khan, Star Wars matured and Middle Earth returned in a massive Amazon series. They were charming, they were irreverant and they kept us hooked to the screen. Here  we list some of the best shows of 2022, in no particular order. You decide which ones you liked most.

1) As We See It - Amazon Prime Video

This one was close to heart. The American comedy-drama was based on the Israeli series On the Spectrum by Dana Idisis and Yuval Shafferman and was created by Jason Katims. The 8-episode series premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 21, 2022. Unfortunately, it was cancelled after eight breezy yet deeply rewarding episodes. The series follows 20-something roommates Jack, Harrison and Violet, all of whom are on the autism spectrum, as they look for work, make friends, and fall in love.

2) Andor - Disney+ Hotstar

Andor, also known as Star Wars: Andor, is an American science-fiction action-adventure television series created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+. It is the fourth live-action series in the Star Wars franchise, and a prequel to Rogue One (2016) and the original Star Wars film (1977). The series follows thief-turned-Rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five years that lead to the events of the two above-mentioned films.

Executive producer Diego Luna reprises his role as Cassian Andor. The ensemble cast also includes Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Genevieve O'Reilly, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, and Elizabeth Dulau, among others. Though most fantasy and sci-fi films have been reduced to delivering spectacle alone, Andor not entertained but also challenged, moved and provoked us, compelled us to reflect.

3) Ms. Marvel - Disney+ Hotstar

Ms. Marvel wasn a difficult ride. Its attempted to give us a wholesome coming-of-age story and a gentle examination of Partition and South Asian culture in a superhero story. "Ms. Marvel," introduced Kamala Khan—a 16-year-old Pakistani-American growing up in Jersey City. A great student, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. But Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school until she gets super powers herself.

Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel; the cast also includes Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer and Nimra Bucha. Episodes are directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

4) The Dropout - Disney+ Hotstar

The Dropout is an American biographical crime drama miniseries created by Elizabeth Meriwether, based on the podcast of the same name hosted by Rebecca Jarvis and produced by ABC News. The series documents the disgraced biotechnology company Theranos and its founder Elizabeth Holmes, played by Amanda Seyfried . Based on the ABC Audio podcast of the same name, it is a series about the rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes and her company, Theranos. The show touches on experiences that likely motivated Holmes's deceptions and lies in a linear fashion, starting from her preteens and all the way to her exposure as a fraud.

5) Stranger Things Season 4 – Netflix

Darker and denser than its predecessors, Stranger Things 4 sets the stage for the show's final season in typically bingeworthy fashion. Returning as series regulars are Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Matthew Modine and Paul Reiser. Set in March 1986, eight months after the events of the third season, the fourth season is split between different plotlines. Despite its staggering length, the Duffer Brothers have delivered yet another smashingly well-crafted chapter of sci-fi thrills.

6) Severance  - Apple TV+

Sci-fi thrillers can be cold and aloof, or irritating in their endless mysteries. But Severance, which follows employees at a mysterious company, manages to be warm, inviting and often funny. At the same time, the plot is full of intrigues, mystery, suspense and danger. One of the best offerings of the genre in recent years, its cast including Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette and Christopher Walken. It’s a show that kept the audience on their toes.
